League of Legends Lecture

League of Legends Lecture is a class that explores and analyzes a popular video game and cultural phenomenon through various lenses, including gameplay, eSports, psychology, and game design. It helps students develop critical thinking skills that are transferable to the real world by learning and analyzing professional-level League of Legends gameplay during class time, and applying what they learn to their own gameplay outside of class through weekly homework assignments.

As the most popular video game since 2012, League of Legends has an enormous and thriving player community, competitive ranked play, and a global professional eSports scene. League of Legends is also one of the most complex games to master, with an expansive champion roster and a vast gameplay ecosystem that includes micro/macro gameplay, role building, and team composition.

While League of Legends is a fun and social game, it is also a game that often produces conflict. While this conflict is not always explicit, it can be felt throughout the player community, and it culminates in much of the toxic behavior that League of Legends is notorious for.

Players must constantly balance the competing demands of the game, which can be emotionally demanding and require substantial mental investment. In addition to the primary objectives of winning a game, players must often prioritize secondary goals such as grinding for experience and items, achieving high KDAs, or trying out new champions. Unfortunately, these competing motivations can lead to players engaging in inefficient practices that are a major factor in the low skill/rank stagnation that is so common in the League of Legends player community. 롤대리
